An Intelligent Approach to Learning English

SES has developed the Intelligent Learning Approach to English for students to experience a university style learning environment. This pioneering methodology is employed by all staff at SES to ensure your maximum success. Five key elements come together to form the Intelligent Learning Approach:-

1. Encourages Intelligent Learning

The Intelligent Learning Approach incorporates recognised teaching methods which stimulate all parts of the brain. This is done by ensuring that lessons are Logical, engaging the left hemisphere; Visual, involving the right hemisphere; Physical, ensuring extra oxygen is getting to the brain; Positive, encouraging learners to invest in the lesson; Empowering, providing opportunities for learners to take and use the knowledge for themselves; and Varied, recognising that individual students learn in different ways.

2. Includes the Whole Language

SES ensures that learners are instructed in all the major language skills, improving students' speaking, listening, reading, writing, and use of grammar and vocabulary. By attaching equal importance to each of these skills, our students achieve a better English language balance. All learners have different language skill profiles meaning that some may be stronger at reading and writing than speaking and listening, for example.

3. Develops Confidence and Self-Esteem

Our teachers are trained to develop students' confidence in English. This is achieved by ensuring that lessons are both positive and empowering which results in students who feel more confident in the classroom. This confidence encourages students to try harder resulting in greater and faster achievement. Receiving information on the syllabus in advance also allows motivated students to be prepared and therefore feel more relaxed in the classroom.

4. Follows a Logical Syllabus

Our lessons follow progressive, skills-centred syllabuses which are designed to fit the levels established by our academic team and based on the European Language Framework. At the start of the week students receive a detailed preview of content to be covered and at the end of the week a detailed review of their progress.

5. Promotes Continued Learning

Clear instruction is given on study skills at the start of the course and a final workshop detailing additional learning strategies useful to continue learning is provided at the end of the course. This knowledge ensures that students have the tools necessary to carry on learning English long after their course is completed.
